Harley Davidson will launch its first production e-motorcycle in 2019.

Yes, the iconic symbol of American steel and piston popping internal combustion is shifting to voltage.

Sad sign of the times. There is nothing like the unique throaty growl of the Harley gas engine.

About time they finally caught up with the 90s. It still doesn't make them suck any less.

At the very least this should eliminate the oil problem on roads.

Nothing like the potato poot of those trademarked misaligned cams...

They're so late to the market though. Zero has some really nice bikes.

Maybe when casting the rims, they could cast the rims just right, so you could put on some playing cards held on by cloths pins to make noises on the spokes. You know, give it that Harley sound.
On a more serious note. It would be nice to have one of these to cruise around the neighborhood on. But not the $21,000 - $25,000 range I hear they will be asking.

Oil leaks haven't been a problem since the Shovelhead was discontinued in 1984.

Then tell that to my neighbor with the '09 Harley and the growing oil stain on his garage floor because he's not intelligent enough to spend $1.50 on an oil pan.

"Oh, it's not the bike. That problem was solved 30 years ago. It's just the cat has a habit of peeing under there. See all that cat litter? Yeah, that's it." (They don't have a cat, by the way.)

My 1992 Dyna Glide, among others, has never leaked a drop on my garage floor. A 2009 shouldn't be leaking like an old Triumph. Your neighbor needs to visit his local dealer's service department. It might be a simple fix like the oil drain plug.

Just a thought, but, wouldn’t a silent bike make an already risky proposition even riskier?

You mean, as in being able to drive without deafening bystanders or cheese off the neighbors? Yeah, can't have that happening!

FYI, loud exhaust systems DO NOT "save lives". Popular myth. If anything they cost them especially riding through neighborhoods in areas with lots of gun permits.
