Plastic straw manufacturers are bracing for big changes. The tide is turning against their product.
Cities and countries around the world are stepping up pressure on businesses and consumers to ditch the plastic drink accessory because of the pollution it causes. Research shows there will be more plastic than fish by weight in the world's oceans by 2050, and straws are a major factor because the vast majority are never recycled.

I remember when a kid in school that all of the straws were paper, and worked just fine. They would never get soggy before the drink was finished. On the other hand, the total pollution caused by plastic straws has to be minuscule compared to the plastic bottles, which have been recyclable for a long time but continue to be discarded into the trash or even just tossed out a car window or into a lake or stream. The worst are actually Food containers and packaging along with plastic bags.
