That was only about 20yrs after Arrhenius did his work on co2 & heat. It must have been on the mind of that journalist.

Speaking of burning coal, they claim the urban heat island effect is due to all the roofs and pavement radiating absorbed sunlight back out so quickly--- but the same amount of sunlight hits the area regardless of what it's made of-- so quickly giving it back up should make day temps warmer, but nite temps cooler-- we don't see that.

I wonder how much we're heating up urban air just by directly heating it up with furnaces and ICEs? I know sitting on a motorcycle in rush hour traffic even in cold weather is hot.

You have it backward. UHI is the result of the dark rooftops and pavement absorbing heat and not radiating that heat back so fast. (Link) to NY Times article of August 30, 1971:

***********

One widely recognized manmade phenomenon is the urban heat island. Comparisons of temperatures of cities and of the countryside surrounding them show that the cities, with their concentration of furnaces and machines and of heat absorbing buildings and pavements, are significantly warmer in summer and winter. As the city grows in population and area, and as its suburbs become more urbanized, the heat concentration also grows, and this may be the explanation for the apparent rise in average temperatures 1n New York City in recent years.

Then days should be cooler and nites warmer.

Actually, the difference is that land with vegetation keeps things cooler for various reasons: evaporation/transpiration, shading, increased surface area (same amount of energy absorbed over a greater surface area = lower heat per sq ft)

I have brains, so I don't subscribe to the NY Times Journal of Pseudoscience-- couldn't access your reference site.

I still want to know what all that heat generated by engines & furnaces has to do with urban ambient temperatures. It's gotta be dispersed to the atmospshere.

Try google.. I ran across something on this but have bookmarked so many web sites that I cant remember where it was.

You should double check this as I might be off but that web site dismissed the actual heat energy we have generated as only accounting for a very small percent and not significant compared to the energy required for the temperature increases we actually have experienced.

Here a fact for the warmers.

In the beginning the fraud started by calling it "man made global warming" When that failed, it was changed to Global Warming, when that failed they called it Climate Change.

Now, on to other fraud:

Increased O zone size...........Fraud
Dying Polar bears soon to be extinct.......Fraud
Acid Rain.........Fraud
SUV poisoning the earth with extreme emissions.........Fraud
Raising seas..........HUGE FRUAD
Raising temps........Ahhh no. The 1930's the highest temps recorded in the U.S

"man made global warming is a man made lie"

First off, the earth’s climate is always in a state of change. Secondly, USA vehicles and factories emit far less pollution than ever before and much less than many other nations. Third, it is the developing countries that are emitting the worse pollution today due to extremely lax or nonexistent regulations on vehicle and factory emissions. Fourth, there is a global increase in volcanic activity which releases far more gases than our factories and vehicles.

Feel good knee jerk reactions to the environment not only don’t work, they sometimes makes things worse. For example, there once was this big push to save the trees. This led to a push to get rid of paper bags, paper cups, and other paper based products. They were then replaced with plastic shopping bags and styrofoam or plastic cups.

Only the first statement in your post is correct.
