"Another issue: according to federal data, building solar panels significantly increases emissions of nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), which is 17,200 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas over a 100 year time period. NF3 emissions increased by 1,057 percent over the last 25 years. In comparison, US carbon dioxide emissions only increased by about 5 percent during that same time period."

The RW loonies will never cease dredging up red herrings about renewable energy. Time to give it up. The train has left the station.

But that baby is running on fossil fuel

Declining at a heroic rate.

Yes, as NG rises at same rate to take its place. Coal + NG gives us 2/3rds of our energy. PV is down there at <2%.

In 2018 we added about 20,000 MW of natural gas capacity and about 13,500 MW of wind and solar.

That's not the half of it, this is what they don't want you to know. In the manufacturing process of solar panel there are a number of toxic chemicals that go into their construction:

Cadmium telluride: When inhaled, CT also prevented normal weight gain and caused lung inflammation and lung fibrosis, a hardening of lung tissue. From low to high doses of inhaled CT, the weight of the lungs increased. Moderate to high doses of inhaled CT proved lethal.

Copper Indium Selenide:Moderate to high doses of inhaled CIS increased the weight of a rat’s lungs and increased lung fibrosis. Lungs exposed to CIS produced high amounts of fluid. However, we are not rats, so we don't have anything to worry about.

Cadmium Indium Gallium (Di)selenide: Scientists used a low, moderate and high dose of CIGS in rats. All doses resulted in lungs that had spots that were inflamed, meaning they were damaged. Lungs also had spots that produced excessive fluid. These spots worsened as time went on after the one week of exposure.

Silicon Tetrachloride: One of the toxic chemicals involved with solar panels is not what’s in the panels but is a byproduct of their production. Crystalline silicon is a key component of many solar panels. The production of crystalline silicon involves a byproduct called silicon tetrachloride. Silicon tetrachloride is highly toxic, killing plants and animals.

Now the average life of a solar panel is 20-25 years, then they are replaced and disposed of. The problem becomes with millions of these solar panels being proposed for install the disposal of them could become a huge environmental issue. But what the heck, at least the polar bears will be saved, the air will be breathable and the land will be poisoned. No problem.

Coal consumption has been dropping steady, which I woudl assume has been due to federal policies.

If less than 2% of the energy of the nation comes from solar, so what?

I do not see how that translates to anything.

My house is solar-powered, as is my car. Which is a statement about me and says nothing about anyone else.

They can be recycled and dedicated plants for that are starting to operate.
