The Tom Swift series of kids' adventure/sci-fi were popular a little over a century ago. I got a kick out of reading this one-- As the Greeks used to say, "There's nothng new under the sun."

Chapter One could have been written today-- the same problems of battery tech needed to be worked out by Tom then are still being worked on today. "A new break-thru in battery tech is only 10 yrs away." They've been saying that for a century. Even Tom un 1912 suggested using Lithium.
OTOH- chapter 4 involves some of the problems earlier auto drivers had to deal with that we don't have to consider today-- lousy tires, frequently fouled spark plugs,
adjustment of carburetion and spark advance while you're driving....Probably most readers here don't even remember ignition tune-ups every 6000 miles or valve adjustments once a year.....
Most of the tech problems of early ICE machines were gradually solved. Many of the criticisms of EVs today fall into that category-- relativley small problems. They'll be gradually solved. Same with the logistics problems-- not enough charging stations, etc. Demand will drive the tech and market.
My main objections to the push for EVs is the unrealistic attitude towards providing enough materials and power generation, the nonsense about their environmental advantages, and most particularly about the govt interfering with the transition process.
