With this cold air mass crushing so much of the US this week, this article may be helpful, especially to youse Southerners who have houses equipped with furnaces & insulation not usually stressed to this degree (no pun intended).
It's a little late to install more insulation or a bigger furnace just for conditions you won't see again for another 50 yrs, but you can put on another sweater. That's about the only smart thing Jimmy Carter said during his four yrs in office.
