Can anyone give me any sort of input on furnaces that are considered to be a little bit more environmentally friendly than others? Any specific makes or models? I'm looking to replace my furnace this year and would like to get something in that's efficient. Thank you in advance.

Pellet furnaces burn wood pellets which are incredibly efficient (something like 97-99% burn). Pellets are made from sawdust and recycled materials...so you lower your footprint there as well.

Someone was telling me about these the other day, it sounds interesting but I imagine that in the neighborhood I live in it would be hard for resell to put one of those in.
Thanks for the advice, everybody. I can't say I've ever been in the market to buy a furnace before so I don't know much about these kinds of things. I guess it's all part of growing up.

I found this site very helpful in my own research:
I plan to install a wood-burning stove into a pre-existing chimney from an old oil heater (line the flue). I nixed the pellet idea early on after reading about shortages in pellets here and there...I can always find wood to burn, I might not always be able to buy pellets.
