imo, consumption is the root of ALL of our environmental and economic problems! it is also the root of most of our social problems too! why then would a democrat, and one who wants to address global warming*, human rights, workers rights, etc calling for the powers that be to perpetuate this consumerist society?
* personally not convinced on human contribution to global warming but there are several other environmental problems i'd love to see addressed. deforestation, overfishing etc etc
