It will take decades to get 150k EVs into Houston. By that time oil will be $300/bbl and hopefully there will be much more efficient alternative systems like solar, wind & geo. You could get the 480 volt "fast charge" easily enough at home by purchasing a transformer.

Question: I am not one of Al Gore's global warming nuts but that's not to say I wouldn't enjoy kicking OPEC in the A$$. If I purchased one of these what kind of solar panel array would I need at home to be able to charge it in 8 hours? This I would like to do.

I'm all for using less gas but can our current grid handle an influx of electric cars? What about the 100 miles? Is that flat miles? City or rural miles? I don't think I would get far in my area. Too many mountains to drive through.

I also don't think my solar system could handle charging a car. Maybe someday when the car has it's own solar film I might think it's cool but i don't want to plug it up.

Neat concept but I think they have a long way to go.

man stepped off trolly and into the path of an ELECTRIC car.

Doesn't have anything to do with this thread~ just an interesting fact I came across and couldn't keep to myself.


Wife and I are a one car family and travel fairly long distances~ if I ever need a second vehicle this car would definitely get a look

I've read about these Electric cars and I agree it sounds great. One thing I have heard ZERO about is what is going to be done about all of these batteries that will start appearing in repair shops 3, 5, 10 years from now? Before anything goes much further I think they need to prepare for that...

I can just see it now, thousands of repair shops with pallets of these things all over the country rotting and leaking... very little is recycled now... Better get a plan!
