Does anyone know if you need a building permit to add on to a 'hobby' workshop in Guilford County? The workshop has electricity, but no water. The addition will be closed in and used for storing dried wood with an open side for storing the lawn tractor, etc.

If you plan to do this yourself & have pretty good carpentry skills I would forego this whole topic. Why? The headache of the permit/inspection process won't be worth it.
My dad played by the rules when having a workshop built years ago. The carpenter built it according to spec for it's size 10X30 w/wall studs 24" on center. A different inspector than the original inspected the site before the drywall was put up and made the carpenter add more studs in between those.
Freaking houses are only 16" on center.

Yeah, that's what the hubby says. There's no drywall involved, they're just building an enclosure onto the side of his workshop, so maybe that's a key point.

Thanks!!
