Mt. Airy seems like it might just be the greatest place in the world to live if you are retired, limited income, housing is beyond low-priced. However, I see on City Data that the crime rate is a little higher than some of the other NC regions. Why would this be? And what kind of crime. I notice that there are a lot of break ins.
Is this a really depressed area. Is there a Pit Bull problem? Is law enforcement strong?
Is there cable available for TV and Internet?
I was thrilled with the mention of a library. TV, talk radio, internet and reading are our only pastimes. Not interested in golf or "theater".
