Mennonites in area (Salisbury, Statesville, Mocksville: buying, stores, moving)

I hear the Mennonites are buying up alot of land between Salisbury, Statesville & Mocksville and moving in by the mass. Is this true. Anyone know anything about them?

There is a Mennonite presence in NC, along with Quaker as religions of plain people. It would help if you provided a cite for your comment.

Wondering if they are the contemporary or older traditional type and how the economy is impacted and how they are received by the locals. they usually bring alot of growth and tourism with them. They usually have some really neat stores and services. I understand they are centered around the northern tip of Rowan county

The Mennonites are absolutely wonderful people. They are devout Christians, hard working, simple and very dependable. i would take them as neighbors any day. They are the first to help in times of trouble. The mind their own business and let neighbors alone unless needed. They are clean and tidy. They are respectful and sincere. How a neighbors receives them would depend on the neighbors predisposition. Were someone to judge them wrong, confusing them with some cult because of their distinctive clothing, they would be peaceful, tolerant and patient, praying and loving their neighbors and enemies alike.
