WOW!! That is a lot of choices...and all these are "close", as in walking distance, to the train station??
Any interesting shops, like "independent" book or antiques stores??

All are on Elm St within a few blocks from the train station. Upon leaving the train station you will walk west two blocks to arrive at Elm St. Many of the restaurants will be to the left (south).
There are shops to browse, but no bookstores. At the corner of Elm & Washington is a gift shop called Glitters, a frame shop called Thousands O Prints (they sell prints and posters too). There are a couple of antique stores further south across the tracks; Lions Antique's & Mary's Antiques (don't quote me on those names. ), and a consignment shop at the corner of Elm & McGee St.
I agree with suggestions by WFW&P just walk up Washington to Elm & there ample places left or right within a block either direction. I also recommend checking out Glitters on the corner it is a unique gift shop especially the front it has wall to wall things to look at and collectables & gifts.
Greensboro has the best thriving historic down towns that I have been to in this state.

Glitters reminds me of the Gay Dolphin at Myrtle Beach and their business hours are suffixed with an "ish." And they are quite liberal with that "ish."
Thanks all.
My son tells me that I should ask about any safety concerns for walking in this area during the day...so, following orders, , is this a "safe" area for an older individual to be walking about during the day?
