It happened at the Woodforest Bank at the Wal-Mart on Wendover in Greensboro just outside of High Point in an area that supposed to be a good one. The guys had to be idiots to rob a bank in a Walmart- Walmart has more parking lot security cameras alone than most banks have inside- then consider all the cameras monitoring the doors and store. They were caught shortly after. It would definitely spook me too but it goes to show that random things like that can happen in any area. I live in High Point and there are bad areas (I live in one) but High Point is in the process of a huge revitalization project that involves a large part of what people currently consider to be the "ghetto". I have four children- two in college and two in diapers- and I wouldn't recommend High Point to anyone, especially a mother, if I didn't feel it was an awesome place to live. One other thought- when you and your children come down, you can decide the school district you'd like them to attend and if you have to rent in another district, you can always ask for a transfer based on the fact that you plan to move to that district and do not want your children to have to go through changing schools after the move. Unless it just absolutely cannot be done, it will probably be granted as long as you provide the transportation, which a lot of parents do anyway. I'm happy to answer any other questions you have about High Point if you have questions about specific areas. Do not go by crime rates according to zip code, found online. I can't say they're useless but they're certainly not useful. You might end up in an apartment complex with a high crime rate that's located in a "nice" area. I've talked about this in several of my other posts in this forum. Good luck with everything and I hope you'll be happy in your new home : )
