I had to Google the old news staff. Yeah, unfortunately, Frank Deal died back in 2010. He was in a nursing home. I guess he died from complications of Alzheimer's disease. When I was a little kid, I used to draw maps of the United States and pretend that I was Frank Deal giving the weather report...lol! Obviously, he never realized what an affect he had on some of us! I would have liked to have met him before he had gotten sick.
Frank use to shop at the grocery store I worked at in my early teens, his off-air personality wasn't like the on-air one.
Fred is a genuine person, I saw him one weekend at an auto parts store, he was dressed as if he had come from the station, minus the jacket and with a pipe.
Rich Brenner (RIP) was a customer at a auto repair shop I used to work for, pretty good guy to talk to.

Until I had gotten hooked up with DirecTV, I didn't have Fox 8 with my local cable company (VA.) So, the only news anchor/reporter I even recognized was Neil McNeil. I did hear about the passing of Rich Brenner, that's pretty sad. It's weird how these news anchors and reporters almost become part of your family because you see them almost every single day, same time, same channel, every single day! So, when you hear about their passing, you can't help to almost grieve over them as you would your own family.

Neil has been there a loooooooong time, but you're right it does become a little personal when a news personality passes.
