Lexington BBQ (Called "the monk" by the locals cause it is owned by the Monk family) is one of my favorites. Great hush puppies and tea too.

I also vote Speedys as #1. By the way, if you like your bbq chopped, you can order it extra fine, extra lean there, and order extra bbq dip...mmmm!!!! Makes you want to PIG OUT!!! LOL!!!

I love BBQ and I'm glad I clicked into this post. I'm going to try and hit up a new bbq spot mentioned in this thread each weekend until I've tried them all.

I figure try a pulled pork sandwich at east place as a baseline, then hit up ribs, and finish off with brisket.


What's the most essential bbq side in your opinion? I've got to go with a solid cornbread.

Very few, if any, BBQ joints in Lexington have ribs or brisket. And in NC we don't "pull" pork, we chop it. In Lexington, you will often see it chopped coarse or fine, or even sliced. Hushpuppies are the side of choice. Only a few places down east have cornbread.
