Around the Winston-Salem I would check into these areas:

Lewisville: To the west of Winston-Salem (about 15 mins away). Nice area and neighborhoods. http://www.lewisvillenc.net/

Clemmons: To the west of Winston-Salem (about 10 mins away). Another nice area http://www.clemmons.org/

North Davidson area: To the south of Winston-Salem (about 15 to 20 mins away). This includes the towns of Midway, Arcadia, and Wallburg. Nice neighborhoods, low property taxes (a big plus). http://www.davidsoncountync.com/

There are a ton of apartment communities in Greensboro, but I would check with Tom Elder first- his property management company covers all sorts of inventory, including townhomes and houses.

We moved to Winston-Salem/Kernersville 2 years ago from Florida and love it. We find Kernersville a great city because it is right in between Winston and Greensboro...the two largest cities in the area. New construction is going on everywhere.
