I graduate next year, and I plan to apply to UNCSA's filmmaking program. I was wondering...what is the Punk/Metal scene like in Winston Salem? I have heard some disheartening things about it being extremely "Bible strict" and not accepting to people of that lifestyle. Would someone with a Mohawk and who dresses quite goth/punk be accepted? I mean I would hate to attend school at a place where I would be rejected for who I am. I've also heard that punk/grunge bands have been sort of pushed out of the area due to the 'Bible belt' atmosphere.

It's an art school, not bible college. I'm sure you'll find plenty of like-minded peers at UNCSA. But you're right, WS doesn't really have much of a traditional "punk" scene. Around here it's either rockabilly or bearded coffee-shop garage rock.

I'll think you find Winston salem is very liberal minded. The city helps to put on this festival every year.

Heavy Rebel festival.

Home its a very popular weekend.

If all you got is a Mohawk and dress goth, folks will think you are a visiting Mormon. My daughter is a 2013 film school grad. That place is full of strange folk. That is what makes it great.

Here is some free advice. The initial work in film is via "intern". In other words you don't get paid squat. Start saving NOW for six to eight months of living expenses. Word.

Unfortunately, HRW is not typical of the music scene in the Triad. When I moved back to NC in 2008, I mistakenly thought it was, and boy, did I find out just how wrong I was.
