I know I can't make an ad here but has anyone had success selling large appliances on Craigslist? My daughter is moving into a home and already purchased a new SS fridge to be delivered by Sears in the next 10 days. They take away your "old" one and basically throw it away but this is practically new (4 yo)black side by side in excellent condition that she wants to sell but is leary. If she had a garage she would keep it but they don't. Any suggestions? It is so wasteful to throw it away. I thought about Habitat for Humanity but don't know who would pick it up since she obviously can't pay to deliver it. Any suggestion greatly appreciated!

I'm not a big fan of having strangers come to my house, but I have sold one item through craigslist (a futon).

Salvation Army apparently will pick up: call 1-800-SA-TRUCK.

Habitat for Humanity will pick up also: http://www.habitatforsyth.org/restore/donate/

Some independent appliance dealers buy used appliances even if you aren't buying from them. I found one near me in Newland, NC so maybe there's one like him in Greensboro too. Sorry I don't have a specific referral.

Otherwise, I have had good success selling furniture and other large items through Craigslist. Just use caution and common sense.

I've sold use appliances via Craigslist or print ads. I don't have a problem with buyers coming to look at the item and have never had any trouble. Let's be realistic about the paranoia. Anyone with a shady background could be working for any of these businesses that could take the old fridge away.
My advice is to use common sense:
If she decides to sell it set hours when people can look at it.
Have someone else there with her.
If possible place the fridge where it can be easily moved and not cause any damage.

Duke Power will pick up a working fridge and give you $50. Check their website.

Thanks for the feedback. They have decided to keep it in an outside storage closet. It is a large locked closet and they will keep drinks and extra there. I am gald they kept it. It was really like new and they would never have gotten what it was worth!
