Hey everyone. Just curious to see if anyone knew the rules on how close to a property line you can build a shed in Davidson County. I'm not in city limits, nor am I in a neighborhood with HOA.

I have already called the county office, but received voicemails, so figured I would try here.

Thanks for any info!

As close as you want, but don't get caught.

I think setback regulations are different for rear, side, and front of lots.
I didn't find much - don't know if this document will help; it mentions setbacks - don't know if sheds fall under the same regulations as permanent structures.

And howdy from northeast Davidson!

Lol. As bad as my luck is, I would get caught as soon as the last stroke of paint went on.

Hey! Thanks for that link. I wish they didn't make these regulatory documents so difficult to read. Surely this is a common enough question to make a friendly chart of some sort. But, I think I found the answer in the document you linked:

"C. Accessory structures may occupy required side open space provided that such
buildings are more distant from the street than any part of the principal building
on the same lot and any part of the principal building on any lot abutting said
required side open space; provided, however, that such accessory structures are
not closer than three feet to any lot line.
"

I don't guess 3 feet is too bad. Thanks for your help!

You're welcome. I agree that this type of information can be difficult to find and often buried in legalese.
