Hello,
I'm coming to Winston-Salem in October to an RN-interview day for Forsyth Medical Center, Kernersville Medical Center, Medical Park Hospital, Rowan Medical Center and possibly Thomasville Medical Center. I'm not from the area and really don't know anything about these hospitals. Any information or tips you can give me would be really helpful. I'm most interested in pediatrics/NICU, but I'm not sure which of these hospitals have these specialties. I haven't found Norvant's website to be easy to navigate for information.

I realize that pediatrics and NICU are hard to get into, so if I have to start out on a general floor caring for adults so be it. I'm hoping my background as a teacher helps me get in the door.

I've also heard conflicting information about NC's income tax: is it 5 or 7%?

Taxes are at 5% with no deductions. Be aware the local Real Estate taxes will be going up because of the last round of tax cuts at State level. I only know Novant as a patient and have found Rowan Med.Center to be very good.

I saw in the paper this weekend that Moses-Cone in Greensboro is hiring. They are probably the biggest hospital in the area.

Thanks Boss and booney56. I just checked out Cone Health. They don't seem to be hiring new nurses right now. I'll e-mail the managers on their website to see when they're hiring again.

Moses Cone is actually a lot smaller than Forsyth (Novant) and Baptist (WFU) in Winston. Both of those are over 900 beds. Moses Cone is more like 550. You'd have to include Wesley Long and Women's in with Moses Cone to get close to the size of Forsyth or Baptist.

To your initial question, OP, both Novant Forsyth and Brenner Children's Hospital, which is a part of Wake Forest Baptist Health, have NICUs. Baptist and Forsyth are close together (maybe 2 miles apart), and only Forsyth actually delivers babies, but the NICU at Brenner is very well regarded.
