Triad Friends (and beyond): Watch out for phone scam using name of "Duke Energy."

Received two calls this morning from (980) 232-9942 with caller ID "Duke Energy." Voicemails were automated messages (very official sounding) stating that they were calling with important information about my account, and that they would send a letter if unable to contact me by phone.

I've paid my bill already (which keeps going up, btw...sigh). Logging into Duke Energy on-line account confirms nothing is wrong.

Quick Web search shows this number has been used for a while for this same scam (which it obviously is). And, as more than one person has commented on phone search forums, Duke Energy always will send you a letter about your account. They don't call you.

Might also be a reason to scrutinize what you receive by mail, also....

Thanks. I sent them a message through their website while logged into my account. I'm sure they've been contacted about this before, and not likely to catch the culprit. But, maybe they will devote more resources to the search if enough customers report this scam.

May not be a scam.

I use www.800notes.com a lot to check out suspect phone numbers.
Here's what other people have to say about that number:
