Always wondered why there is only one fast food place downtown not (counting subway). how did Hardee's get the lockdown on being the only fast food spot downtown. I'm surprised a mcds hadn't tried popping up downtown. Did the city place any restrictions on fast food locations downtown and Hardee's just lucked up. ?!?
No idea, but it's a blessing. Rather not see a bunch of crappy chains downtown. That stuff is tolerable on road trips when we need something quick close to the interstate. Otherwise, we keep it local.
I guess you're talking about G'boro? There's a Jimmy Johns, too. I think the reason there aren't any other burger chains is the lack of sites that accommodate a drive through window, either from a size or cost aspect. That Hardee's has been there forever.
Hardees needs to be torn down and rebuilt as a urban restaurant. Looks like a suburban Hardee's plopped right in the middle of downtown.
The Hardee's looks like it was built in an era when the solution to bring people downtown was to make downtown feel like the suburbs. Obviously, there are problems with this strategy.
I looked this up and according to the tax records, the building was built in 1986, which would have been towards the end of that era. For some reason I'm thinking it was there before that but maybe not?
There use to be a McDonald's on the edge just outside if downtown but it was in a service station. I don't see anything wrong with fast food joints downtown as long as they architecturally fit in with the downtown urban fabric. Btw fast food is not fast food anymore. The wait in the drive thru lines are rediculous.
But there needs to be a variety of restaurants. Not everyone can afford upper mid price to higher prices restaurants. Sometimes workers downtown may want just a big mac.
thanks everyone for all the information. BC what u said about the drive thru space makes since and gsoboi your right about the high prices of the other places. There needs to be at least one or two places that can have a value menu downtown The cheapest thing I found was the hibachi place. Their lunch special was around 5 something. I forgot the name of it but it's inside the building with other restaurants. I also agree that the Hardee's needs to go. I ate their a fee days ago and it's so sad on the inside plus the customer service wasn't the greatest . def a big difference from other Hardee's in the area.
I always thought that Hardee's looked really out of place, as well. It looks kind of dirty, too. Haven't been inside, so I could be wrong.
