So this was a random discovery... searching on the website LinkedIn, came across a couple jobs for Buc-ee's in Winston-Salem, NC. I had read an article a while ago about Buc-ee's which basically compared it Wa-Wa (basically a better version of Sheetz) on speed. They also tend to be huge, with one location sporting 120 gas pumps. Here's their website....
Interesting. I clicked around on the job link then checked the listing on their website. The address for that store is 27106 US Hwy 290, which is in Texas. I wonder if it's a mistake reading the 27106 as the zip code so it shows up as being in W-S.

I think you're clearly correct. They only have about 36 locations, and are just now opening their first stores outside of there, all in Alabama and Florida. Skipping to NC makes no sense.

Usually that's the case. It seemed odd to me too. I think that's almost certainly what happened. But I've seen chains skip states before (though I wouldn't expect it in the case of a gas station/super convenience store).
That said, NC is specifically mentioned in one of the articles I mentioned.
Well, Buc-ee’s might be interested in North Carolina after all
The News and Observer had an article out stating that Buc-ee’s was very interested in going near Efland (Western Orange County) just east of the Alamance County line.
