I agree with this. Greensboro is not going to land a transformational corporate relocation or anything of that kind in today's environment. No single mega-project to turn the city around is coming down the line. The future lies in thinking small and building on the assets that the city already has. How do you support homegrown entrepreneurs? How do you improve the quality of local education, including colleges and universities? How do you increase quality of life? These are the unsexy issues that will determine the city's future.

And I don't buy a narrative that the city needs to be "turned around." Improved? Yes, absolutely. But Greensboro is not in stagnation or decline. There is growth, and there are real assets in the community. Slow and steady is the name of the game here.

Those initiatives I listed aren't just talk though, they all have real money behind them.
I'm not really trying to pick a fight, i'm simply trying to open eyes. Instead of always coming at me and others with accusations of trolling whenever we point out something negative about Greensboro, the more sensible people in this thread need to start calling out the hyperbole specialists whenever they start making foolish and unrealistic claims. Supporting and promoting nonsense in public threads does not help Greensboro achieve its goals.

Who's eyes are you saying are closed though? It seems to me you have a personal gripe with 1 or 2 posters and their optimism. Question, have you changed their minds yet? As a casual observer, the Greensboro threads follow a typical pattern. 1 or 2 very optimistic boosters come in to prop up the city. Then that triggers other posters who feel they need to "bring them down to reality" by going in the opposite direction with hyperbole of their own: "Greensboro is filled with zombie homeless people crawling out of garbage piles on every corner!" Having a sensible discussion on Greensboro development gets harder and harder on here.

Again, start calling out those "1 or 2 very optimistic boosters" when they post clearly what amounts to BS or decide to throw shade at W-S, the same way you guys criticize me and TunedIn as being trolls, and you might start to see more balanced engagement and an uptick in the number of posts in these Triad threads. For some reason the homers become silent when it comes to those 1 or 2 very optimistic boosters.

I'm not sure if I fall in the "booster" or "homer" category, but since I called you out for trolling in another thread, I'm pretty sure I fall in there somewhere . I also want to see more engagement in these threads. You had some great comments earlier in this thread - I want to see more of that perspective, and I will do the same with my comments.

I have lived in Greensboro most of my life. I am raising my family here; I own a business here; I am active in community and government roles here. I love this city and am invested in its future. I also like to dream big and to be optimistic about the future. If that makes me a homer, then so be it. If my ideas suck, let's talk about why they do. I enjoy coming to this site to share ideas, hear other perspectives, and learn new things, so I hope we can have more conversations along those lines in the future.

I agree with your desire to have more productive dialogue in these threads. If you look at other city threads, posts consist of questions about the area, relocations, and all kinds of other topics. Most posters in those city threads are very eager to offer their insight and share information.

In these GSO, the commentary is heavily skewed towards glorifying one city, and essentially ignoring the rest of the Triad and throwing shade whenever possible. These "1 or 2 very optimistic boosters" have almost single handedly shut down open dialogue and controls the dynamics in these threads, even when they are not posting. I've noticed that W-S posters have almost given up on posting in these threads.

As a result, the Triad threads have the lowest number of posts in the NC forums.

I'm one of those "others". And "calling out" posters essentially amounts to a violation of the site's TOS.

Look, I completely understand the fact a couple of frequent posters on here are highly annoying, but, as j_thomas correctly points out, attacking them doesn't improve the dialogue.

Allowing them to methodically control the information and virtually everything else in these threads doesn't improve the dialogue either.

Again, just look at Charlotte and Triangle threads as examples of how people normally communicate, disseminate information, and the wide range of topics discussed in "city-data" forums.

"Calling them out" doesn't change anything. Ignoring them, or guiding the conversation in another direction does.

If I may chime in, I live near the syngenta campus, I’m very excited to see the office building portion go up, my only wonder is with the newer space, will they hire more people? The newer space will support 650 workers and 100 contract workers, that’s where my curiosity lies.
