The apartment building I rent in was renovated about 6-7 years ago (before I moved in) and I tried to look at the zoning plans on Zoning Archive Online but what was available and scanned dates back to the 1950's only. (I'm trying to get floor plans or something to indicate the number of bedrooms which were created when the work was done.)
I tried to look on phila.gov to see if this information can be requested as I assume building / zoning permits would have been needed, but there doesn't appear to be information on how to obtain this if it is not available on the online archive -anyone know how to get this or which office to contact initially? Do i simply contact the zoning or is it Licenses and Inspections?
I'm looking for a floor plan or documents that indicate the renovation was to or to create / renovate a 2 bedroom apartment and not a 3 bedroom. I'm basically looking to document that it is a 2 bedroom plus living room, not 3 bedrooms. (I realize the legal description of a bedroom is somewhat different from place to place, but that any room with a window, 2 outlets and a closet / door can be basically be called a bedroom).

You might want to call the permit office and see if they have inspection or Certificate of Occupancy on file for you to see. But not sure if that will help.
As for it being a legal bedroom, are you thinking that one of your bedrooms aren't legal? I have seen apartments with 2 bedrooms and den which can be "used" as a bedroom. I would first pull the brochure from your management company and see what they are calling it. (if you haven't done so already) I also don't think having 2 outlets would matter, but some areas do require a closet to be called a bedroom at least.

He is trying to fight a rent increase and wasting his time doing so.
To OP, if you don't want to pay what they are trying to charge you then your time is better spent finding a new place to live. They can charge you whatever they want and call it whatever they want to call it as long as their advertising is accurate.

Thanks that's a good idea!
