I've started a new position in Greensboro (specifically, off Green Valley Road, near Battleground) - living with mother-in-law temporarily - unfortunately, I am from Greenville, SC and am not very familiar with the Greensboro metro

the rental/real estate market is difficult everywhere - I would like to rent (perhaps up to a year or more) to explore the Triad before purchasing any property - I also greatly prefer to rent from an owner directly rather than thru a property management agency/real estate company

I've focused on Craigslist (as other websites are only property management firms/real estate companies) - I found a loft apartment, 700 sq ft, partially furnished, all utilities incl, private entrance (attached to an owner's house), very small shower/no oven (but stovetop), on Lake Townsend, direct access to lake trails on owner's property, very quiet, next to Bryan Park/Bryan Soccer Complex, for $1000/month

Questions:

I am unfamiliar with the local rental market - can anyone comment on the above monthly rental price?

is the Lake Townsend/Bryan Park/Lees Chapel Road area safe? is this considered the Browns Summit area?

does anyone know of local websites where renters can connect directly to home/property owners (rather than going thru a real estate/PM company)?

Thank you!

Based on my self-admitted cursory knowledge of the G'boro rental market (I grew up there, have family their and just inherited 25% interest in a rental house there) I'd say thats a decent deal. In general, I would say thats a decent, safe area, but it does depend on the exact location obviously. I think the east side of Lake Townsend is considered Browns Summit.
