Those people hanging out in their parent's basement playing video games or those strung out on drugs partying all day usually aren't part of the crowd that factors into this equation.
They would be part of Labor Force Participation Rate, which is currently 62.5%. For prime working age, between 25 - 54, it is 83.2%. Indeed a basement person would not be part of unemployment, just like a stay at home parent or disabled person that does not work outside the home (or looking for work) is not part of unemployment metrics.

The reality is…there is a significant number of people within the population who are considered part of the working demographic that are 1) not willing to work lower wage lower prestige jobs and 2) for whatever reason are not seeking gainful employment.
This issue is impacting many businesses. I have seen this firsthand and have also spoken to many employers that are having a hard time finding and keeping workers. Many businesses have shuttered because of this, and that’s a fact, regardless of what metrics you want to put forth.
Yes, I completely agree. We've entered an unprecedented demographic problem where pretty much every body that wants a job, has a job. We have a record amount of the population now that is senior / retired as well, but still spending and needing services (healthcare, go shopping, retirement care, et...) themselves. This is the smallest share of the population that has been 25 - 54 ever and it isn't getting better with our anemic nationwide population growth.
There will always be a portion of the population that doesn't work (~16% from stay at home parents, disabled, kid living in basement, full time college students, et.). The current ratio of prime age people actually working is very high compared to past decades and most households now have both spouses working (causing additional labor needs in childcare, daycare, and nanny needs). Trying to move that needle is going to be tough. Flexibility by employers with less desirable jobs may be a big one. Some stay at home parents will try Uber, et.. due to schedule flexibility but a job that doesn't put them home when school ends doesn't work.
This last sentence is a misunderstanding. Unemployment rate is based on the total number of people “wanting to work”. That is those working plus those looking for jobs. The percentage that can’t Find a job is the unemployment rate. Just FYI.
LOL, thanks for the info. As CLT4 pointed out, labor force participation rates are very high, the working age demographic is shrinking, and thus ts hard for companies to find employees. Those are the actual facts. Your tired supposition that no one wants to work anymore is completely false.
