BB&T seems to have a lot of open positions in Winston Salem. Does anyone know how many people they employ there? Are they a pretty big factor in the economy there? We are thinking about heading up there from Charlotte if my husband can get an interview with them. Just wondering if anyone knows much about them! Thanks!!

BB&T is a solid bank with a great reputation. I know a number of people who work there, and they all seem happy with the organization. It reminds me a lot of the "old" (pre-First Union merger) Wachovia Bank--conservative, sound, and extremely customer-focused. I don't know how many people work there now, but they are growing steadily through acquisitions. I think it would be a great place to work.

Agree with the above post. Their corporate presence in W-S is not nearly as large as the original Wachovia was in its day. But BB&T is very community-minded in all of its locations.

I had a client that took a position at BB&T and transferred from Charlotte to Winston-Salem about 1.5 years ago. I think he trained loan officers. I don't know what the current state of affairs is, but they seemed to to weather the storm a lot better than most banks. Not sure how many other people they were looking to pull from outside of the area.

BB&T is one of the best big banks in the country. It didn't need or want to take TARP money, but did for fear of being shunned by Obama's administration, and actually paid it back early, unlike most of the other heavyweight banks such as BofA, and Citi. BB&T is a finely run conservative bank that vetts it's potential clients before making loans to people who buy houses they cannot afford like BofA, and just purchased Colonial Bank in Alabama, and let the government take over the toxic aspects of the failed bank before making the deal.

Default BB&T dishonesty

I have pulled all my accounts from that Bank and would never bank at BB&T again. I found out they are dishonest and untrustworthy.
