$1.25 at two toll booths means $2.50 each way. $5.00 round trip. Is it worth FIVE DOLLARS to save two minutes on your drive? If you answer yes, you're an idiot. They keep raising the toll booth rate thinking that will solve the problem. WRONG. How dumb can they be? Two wrongs don't make a right: Southern Connector toll road files for bankruptcy | greenvilleonline.com | The Greenville News

Thank you Bob Inglis for a white elephant.

Did Bob Inglis get us the Southern Connector? I had no idea.

Greenville does need a "beltline" highway like Raleigh and Atlanta (and Houston) and the Southern Connector forms something of an arc around the lower half. So, good idea, but ahead of its' time I think. Making it a toll road probably not a good idea, for sure. But the road itself is a good idea.

Even though i frequently drive from Simpsonville to Atlanta, I've always bypassed that road, in favor of cutting through Mauldin. 185 doesn't seem to be any shorter to me...

Anyone that has lived here any time at all knows there are shorter ways from Simpsonville to I-85 that will not cost you $5.00.
Bad idea from the start. I just hope our Good Ole Boys down in Columbia don't figure out a way for all of us good citizens to pick up the tab for this bad idea.

There ARE uses for this road, though. We live just outside Mauldin near Fork Shoals & Ashmore Bridge Roads, and drive to Lake Hartwell most weekends. We find taking the connector and coming out further down I-85 saves us quite a bit of time.

The road was fairly busy earlier today. No truck traffic, just plenty of two axle auto traffic. Critics need to understand that this freeway was a good idea when originally designed and built, but has never recovered from the initial critical economic hit caused by the 9/11/2001 attacks and more recent global recession. Both unfortunate incidents have proven to be significant factors that have hindered our ability to attract adequate major business investments along the connector thus far. With no end in view to the current gloomy economic climate, it may be a long while before the private entities who built the road are completely vindicated.

$5.00 is the total cost of a round trip. That is, from one end of the connector to the other and back again. You can travel from I-385 near Simpsonville to I-85 near Powdersville in approximately ten minutes for half that price using the connector.

I can travel West Georgia to Garrison Road to Piedmont and then drop down on I-85 for nothing. There are at least 5 convienance stores and a Hardees along the way. Probably only 4 traffic lights. Money in my pocket.

You can also take I-385 to West Georgia Road to Augusta Road to the Southern Connector or vise-versa to miss one of the $1.25 tolls. It might not be as fast
but it definitely saves you money.

The government already steals enough money from me through taxes. I refuse to give them more on a toll road also.

Taking that route does cost more in gas and time though.

Freeways are usually a convenience to travelers who prefer saving time and gas. I can attest to this claim, since my office is in Spartanburg.
