The minimum grade in Greenville County public schools is 61. That makes it pretty difficult to fail.

Greenville County Schools - Parent - Grading

In Texas, a judge recently overturned the minimum grade, so now if you don't turn in something, you get a zero (a real zero, not a fake zero like 50 or 61).

Is an "A" in South Carolina schools still any grade from 94-100? That sticks in my mind from back when I was in high school. There was a Superintendent of Education candidate during this last primary who had as one of her main campaign planks making the SC grading scale in-line with the most of the rest of the country, which according to her is 90-100 equals an "A" grade.

How do you get an F with credit?

If they're going to do that, then what's the point? When I was in school there, the grade you got was what you earned. What kinda crap...

I'm just wondering why someone who doesn't live in the area any more is comparing schools where he currently lives to schools where he no longer lives....?

OMG - grading is different in S. Carolina than it is in Texas! The scandal of it all!

If you get an F with credit, you're not simply getting off the hook. I'm assuming you won't have to take the class again, but you're going to have a HUGE drop in your GPA. And, that's a blemish that's not going to be recovered from quickly, if ever.

Do you have anything material to add to the discussion?

Just questioning the need for it, that's all.

Being a former teacher, a student could receive an F with credit if they completed the assignments (or most of them) but didn't do well on them or put in a minimal effort.

A student would receive an F w/out credit if they just didn't do any of the assignments and did poorly on tests. And there are students that are like this--they just don't care. And unfortunately, the parents usually don't care either because they don't get involved.
