Also, you can find all the apple farms, apples and apple-related products (along with pumpkins in some places as well) you could ever want along US Hwy 64 between Hendersonville and Bat Cave, NC. That drive is one of our favorite fall events, and can take most of a day.
The Upstate, especially Oconee County, used to have all kinds of apple orchards. Unfortunately, I think most of these have fallen to housing developments and cheaper foreign produce.
Sorry there's no helpful information in this post... Just reminiscing a little.
The nearest and one of the best and largest places to find Apples is Hendersonville North Carolina although their are a few Mom and Pop farms in South Carolina.
Hendersonville, NC Apple Orchard & Farms
You and the family can visit Grandad’s for the day and enjoy a variety of fun activities on their 70 acre family farm near Asheville at 2951 Chimney Rock Rd., Hendersonville, NC.
The North Carolina Apple Festival is held annually over Labor Day Weekend in Hendersonville, North Carolina. It has been Western North Carolina’s Premier Family Festival for over 60 years.
Pumpkin patches in South Carolina can be found on several websites but this is just one you can look up.
Denver Downs is our fav. and it’s not that far away. Kids love it there, the adults did too. Last year they had tennis balls you could shoot out of air cannons, swinging and jumping off the hay bales into the hay pit, racing along the top of huge hay rolls, corn maze, kiddie train rides, pick your own pumpkin and gourd hay rides, goats, slides, zip lines.

Have fun!
I second the idea of US 64 between Hendersonville and Bat Cave. In this short 20 or so mile stretch, it is orchard, after orchard, after orchard. All with roadside stands selling everything from fresh apples, to apple cider and pies, to pumpkins. You can pick your own apples at most all the orchards. A really scenic and fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon this time of year.
All of these apple orchards and scenic rides are GREAT for adults.....but kids want fun....not views. OP wants to take the kids to have fun.....Denver Downs is the way to go.

Have you done the scenic ride on US 64? You stop every 2 minutes....hayrides for kids.....train rides.....tractor rides.......halloween mask and haunted barns......it is WAY more than just a scenic ride.
We took the kids up to Sky Top a couple of weekends back. The kids had a blast. Along with apple picking, they had a petting farm, stuff for the kids to play on, hayrides, and lots of yummy treats. It's also a beautiful view. Pack a lunch and make a day of it!
