Sky top sucks. We usually go to Stepps farm on 64 but tried sky top this year. Not only is it super crowded but there were few apples to pick. We filled a half bushel bag and thought it was charged by a flat rate like every other place we've gotten apples from. When we went to check out they weighed the bag and then charged us 4 dollars more!
I would be fine if they are up front about their prices but this seemed shady to me and if you look at their reviews online, its a huge complaint.
The views are pretty but its not worth crappy apples at twice the price of anywhere else. check out the stepps farm off 64. We always have a good time there, its big enough that it doesn't feel too crowded and if you are picking a ton of apples you can even drive your car to the trees.
Wanted to know if the apple farms named in the threads still recommended. Are there any other farms someone recommends taking the family? Thanks for your help in advance.
Thought it was time to bump up this thread. Planning on heading up to the mountains Saturday with the family for some apple picking. Was told to avoid Sky Top by some co-workers, but go to Grandad's instead. Has anyone here also tried Grandad's Orchard?
We go back to Justus every year. Service and staff are great (family owned), ambiance is nice (ya feel like you are at a farm, which we city folk like, lol!) prices are great, and we like that you can drive your car down to the different rows of flavors (not IN the rows, just along side the rows....still gotta get out to pick).
Skytop is way too commercial...amazing view...but not worth the hassle of the crowd, or the prices.
Stepp was okay. Nice clean, organized facilities...just no real "wow" to the place though.

Also with the Apple Festival going on in Hendersonville, do you think it will be really busy at the orchards, or will most folks be at the festival?
GRANDAD's is a good one. Try the honey crisp apples. We go to the festival every year. It lots of fun. It will be crowded, but good festivals are supposed to be so.
