If you do not mind hiking, backpacking or camping in the winter, try visiting some state parks: Jones Gap, Caesar's Head, Table Rock, Devil's Fork, Croft, Paris Mountain. If you want history, try the Cowpens National Battlefield.
This time of year can be a bit tricky for outdoor activities. I was thinking along the same lines as Carolina Knight....45 minutes can narrow the window a bit.
If you read the driving on Woodruff road thread, you could start at the Laurens Rd. end of Woodruff Rd. and end up around the Shops at Greenridge in 45 minutes and perhaps do some shopping. (Kidding of course.)

Well, we've done all these except Croft. What's that? Can't say I've even heard of that one.
Kind of running out of different places to go for day trips.
Thanks all for the suggestions.
Woodruff Rd.? ha. We've been there done that. I wouldn't call that fun.
I've been there to eat at one of their restaurants and saw the lake from there but never really drove up the mountain or around the area too much.
Is there a scenic drive up that mountain to where we could see pretty homes or water? Can you see that HGTV dream home from the road?
Maybe in the winter it's not too scenic?? Anything scenic in that area of the world? Any open little shops? Maybe I need to post this in NC forum but thought I'd ask here also.

Haven't been up there myself, but I'm pretty sure you can't see that house from the road.
When you mentioned heading up to the mountains it got me thinking of another day trip you might like that's even closer. You could spend a day checking out the downtown areas of Landrum and Tryon. Some neat gifts shops, antiques, plus lots of good options for eating out in downtown Landrum and Tryon or Columbus. If the weather gets warmer there is Starwberry Hill USA up that way too in Chesnee. Fun to pick berries and peaches in the spring/summer - though right now their shop and ice cream parlor are probably open.
