I think it's interesting that they had to completely shut down one direction of 385 a couple of years ago in order to do concrete (further down toward Newberry), but they're somehow able to keep both directions open closer to Greenville.

Very. Interesting. Indeed.
Was that section done quicker? I thought that was the idea behind closing it down. Plus it is way less congested and less traffic.

Yes, it was done much more quickly and is less congested.

My brother works for the SCDOT and had to attend a meeting in Columbia. He came up here to visit in July and noticed the 385 work going on and was saying how in the meeting that he attended, they were discussing the I-385 construction and how they were trying something new here with working from the middle of the interstate to keep both directions open. If it's successful they will use this method elsewhere.
1 and 1B look like they are adding an exit past Woodruff at Salter's Road or what exactly is going on there...?
Alternatives 1 and 1B is to provide access from I-85 to Woodruff Road in a new location. Side roads would be taken to access Woodruff Road.
The idea of eliminating I-85 access to Woodruff Road was dismissed. Business dependent on interstate traffic feared losing business with that interchange closed.
I think a better alternatvie to I-85 and Woodruff Road is a connector road that Ys into I-85, similar to Brockman McClimon Road at I-85, exit 58.
