Actually, they're all pretty good. We're fortunate to have very good Indian food in the area. Now for whatever reason, other than P&B, Mexican leaves a lot to be desired.
Definitely hit India Palace. Excellent food, but be sure to order it as spicey as you can. Many restaurants "spice down" the food for the locals, and India Palace is no exception. They're not as bland and tasteless as HANDI, however.
Try the Vindaloo and some Cheese Nan or Poori, and their iced tea (nod to the locals) is spiced with a bit a cardamon that makes it outstanding.
If spice isn't your thing, the Korma is wonderful; or try the veggie or non-veggi Thali - which is a "sampler" tray of many items.
Try to go at an off-peak time. They get crowded for a reason!
Greenville is fortunate to have several excellent Indian restaurants.
I'll echo the comments above. Our favorites are Saffron and Handi. My wife tried Indian Palace several years ago and found it to be good (but not to the level of Saffron/Handi - also, I've read some mixed reviews recently). Our kids like Handi the best - the atmosphere is great, the food is not too spicy (but still very flavorful), and there's plenty of space (much more than Saffron).
Another consideration is Swad on Laurens - vegetarian only - recent reviews are mostly positive - my co-worker loves this place.
(And, yes, most Mexican restaurants in the Upstate are awful - fortunately, Papa's and Beer expanded into this area - otherwise, I would have driven to Hendersonville!)

Have you tried any of the locally owned and operated Mexican restaurants on the Westside?
