The Spartanburg Motor Inn Blight Issue (hotels, university, activities)

Was curious what ever happened with this? Saw some news items a few years back then all went quiet. Looking at Google it appears there is still a structure at that site.

Several hotels along Business 85 were shut down because of too many criminal activities. Two hotels, at Fairforest Road and next to Spartanburg Motor Inn on Charisma Drive, were demolished years ago.

Spartanburg Motor Inn still stands vacant and off limits. University of South Carolina Upstate's presence and revitalization efforts around Asheville Highway and Hearon Circle in these two recent years could spur someone into redeveloping the property.

I was in town a few months ago and noticed this too...I thought for sure that place would have been demolished by now.

Too bad, really...it was formerly a Howard Johnson's, built in the late 1950's and, at the time, one of the largest locations in the chain.
