I saw this article in the Greenville News today, and I think that (re)building a bell tower downtown is a fantastic idea!
Does anyone have any details regarding the project? I am wondering if it will be traditional/historical to pay homage to the original, or if it will be more modern to match Riverplace..

They had a competition several years ago for a design. A very contemporary concept was picked, but I'm not sure if it is what they will build.
This is the one that won back in 2006: RiverPlace Carillon (er, uh, Chime) Design Competition | Flickr - Photo Sharing! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/restedtraveler/218838011/in/photostream - broken link)
I still prefer this design (http://www.flickr.com/photos/restedtraveler/218849263/in/photostream/ - broken link). Simple and complementary to the RiverPlace development.

I like that one much more! Do you know if we are stuck with the other version...?
I don't think anyone knows since this project has run silent for the past 5 years. Competitions are great to get ideas out and creativity, but don't always translate to built designs. So, who knows...? Not sure what the original call-for-entries stated...
