That's an impressive Carillon, and taller than Lady Liberty, too. Good job, Naperville!
So all we in Greenville need is something like that - taller, of course ...
Naperville is much larger than Greenville, and the carillon is on a hill above the town rather than in the middle of the square so what works for Naperville won't necessarily work for Greenville.
Assuming your reply is sarcastic, I'm not sure why my post warranted that treatment ... I thought people on this forum might be interested in what another town has done with its carillon. Guess not.

Perhaps a slightly misplaced sense of humor? I don't think the poster meant anything snarky at all.
So all we in Greenville need is something like that - taller, of course - and give it some use or purpose when the clanging isn't going on. Why not top it with a statue? Or (as I'm now repeating myself), a 4-faced clock? Or give it some character - have it leaning, or corkscrewing, or shape-shifting like those buildings with rotating sections?
If this is generic brainstorming, how about combining it with a Glockenspiel? It doesn't go with the proposed artistic design though.

I took it as an attempt to ridicule by using hyperbole. If that wasn't the intent, I withdraw my comment about sarcasm. Maybe I don't understand what passes for whimsical humor in Greenville.

Ahhh. Now since I looked at the data, I see what you are thinking. Naperville is a suburb in the greater Chicago area. That area of course is much larger than here. As for Greenville, it's larger than most outsiders think. Our laws make it very hard for us to annex. Greenville is the seat for a county of 450k+. Most, including myself; commute to Greenville. Make a visit one day.

No, no, no - No offense meant in any way. No slam to Naperville, you, or the really great carillon. I guess I should have placed more smiley faces and "LOL's" behind every sentence. Humor. Joking. Not personal attacks.
When I said Greenville's should be taller, it's only because Greenville seems to have some fear of creating an interesting skyline. Anything over 9 boring stories would be a great change of pace. (I guess I should now apologize to Greenville for mocking its uninteresting skyline. Sorry, GV.)
That certainly wasn't presented as some "spitting match" (clean version of the phrase) of "my city's better than yours."
Did you catch the cracks about Greenville being "cutting edge," therefore the clock tower should be digital? Kidding. (And now apologies to everyone with digital watches, too.)
Call it whimsical humor, hyperbole, sarcasm, or "some dumb poster with idiot opinions." Whatever you want - just understand we're not usually mean-spirited folks here, besides my ex-wife's attorney.
Yes, that last part was a joke too, but I'm not apologizing to that snake. (Here's where I'm grinning over my keyboard, knowing my knock on divorce lawyers is gonna cost me yet again.)
By the way, Vasily, Naperville is a great city. I know the area well. Had much buisiness travel to Batavia, and even cousins in Aurora. Wish I'd taken time to see the carrilon up close in retrospect, but have not yet. (Actual serious statement.)

No offense taken. I have a lot of sarcastic friends, so I guess I'm a bit thin-skinned. Plus, it's easy to misread subtlety in forum posts (as well as emails) as something else. That is after all why emoticons were invented: "...Transference reactions due to the ambiguity of text communications is a common problem in cyberspace..." (Azy Barak, Psychological Aspects of Cyberspace: Theory, Research, Implications).

I have an ex-wife who lives in the upcountry with husband #3, so I feel your pain. If I move to Greenville, I'll need to be careful when I'm over near Jocassee gorge.

Moved here from NC to marry my wife in January 1988, she got rid of me a couple of years later, and I've been here ever since. Then I decide to move back to the Carolinas in a few years, and guess what: she's already there. Kind of like when we were married, she talked me out of buying a Chrysler convertible and getting a practical minivan instead. Right after divorcing me, she bought ... a Chrysler convertible. Ah, well ...
