Hickory Point has modernized existing locations throughout the region by building new stores onsite of their old stores. That would be my first thought.
If more land has been cleared, like 10 to 15 acres, then it could be residential or commercial.
I asked Hickory Point and its not their land. They are clearing quite a chunk of land there all the way back towards Vinings apartments and along Old Buncombe to that Bible College. Maybe its going to be another apartment complex or some type of retail.
I can see more apartments going up if more Furman students are residing off campus.
As for retail, I am wondering if another supermarket is in the works for the immediate area. Publix has a presence across the street at University Square. Since Winn Dixie occupied the retail center from the 1970s, then replaced by Publix, the immediate area has done well with one grocer. I do not see a need for another grocer unless the population has increased in the immediate area. Ingle's has a store at Cherrydale Pointe, 2.4 miles away, and has its former store on State Park Road at US-25 in Travelers Rest, 4 miles away, which may be a future store. Bi-Lo has not added any stores in years, and I do not think it will anytime soon. Walmart Neighborhood Market will be adding stores throughout the Greenville area. Having a supercenter in Travelers Rest, Walmart may opt for a Neighborhood Market closer to Cherrydale Pointe or in Berea.
I've heard apartments on and off for several years but that piece of property has a little problem, right in the middle of it. A family cemetary. So what ever they do has to be done around that unless they go to the expense to move it.
