Unless your garage door opener is very old, you should be able to buy a wireless keypad remote and mount it yourself without any wiring whatsoever, thus saving yourself some money. You would synchronize the wireless remote keypad the same way you would synchronize a regular remote, such as the remote you carry in your car. The only additional step is programming your personal password, following the instructions that come with the keypad.
Write down the make, model and serial number of your door opener, then head off to Home Depot or Lowe's, or browse on line, to find a compatible remote. While you may get away with an inexpensive third-party keypad, the safer approach is to get a remote keypad made by the same manufacturer as the door opener you have and made specifically for the exact model you have.
Other than the shopping, the entire installation process should take you about 15 minutes - hardly worth hiring someone for!
I agree with lyricamphiban. The only problem though is that you may need to climb a ladder to reach the overhead opener and press the "sync" button. If you are not able to climb a ladder, then grab a neighbor you trust.
