Just a reminder to keep aware of your surroundings. This kid is an employee at Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery. They are taking donations to help replace his bike and belongings if anyone is interested in helping.
"One of them decided to leisurely hit me off of my bike," he said. "Then, all of a sudden, a figure got closer with a gun. He pulled out a gun. He said, 'Get down on the ground." I can't believe this is happening. He put the gun to my face. That's when he pulled the trigger. It was a dry fire. It wasn't loaded. Just to scare me I guess."
What's also interesting is that the police omitted the crime from their report to the media, claiming the crime didn't pose a threat to the public. Huh?
It's REALLY hard to get and accurate idea of crime in the city of Greenville. The police do not post crimes, which means you have to go digging for any info. What are they hiding?
This incident seems to have come to light largely because of how it was going through facebook.
It doesn't appear to me that this is a gang or that there will be repeat crimes around Falls park. I think that's the reason why the police didn't tell the media. If they told the media on every drunk, punch and crime in the downtown area or the whole city, the police would spend all their time reporting instead of investigating.
I know that this is downtown and people will be sensitive to any crime that happens there, but you should not like your fear get in the way of reason. It's not like there is a gang patrolling Falls park looking for victims.
Art, Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Missed the news story completely. Most of the comments I read were spot on as well.
