Since that is White Horse Road and not Berea, I usually do not pay to the on goings over there. If there was a "road construction ahead" sign, then something is not going on building wise.
The former Kmart #3240 is becoming Midgard Self Storage. The climate controlled facility may have 800 units, truck rentals, and storage of vehicles. It is projected to open in May 2016.
The plan was submitted to Greenville County earlier this month. It will undergo a review process before a building permit is issued.
I find it amusing that this is being called a prime retail location when everything keeps closing. Their have also been mentions of crime rate and low income but yet people are pushing for a Publix. Personally I would like to see the buildings demolished and Greenville parks recreation come in and do something with the land. Since Westside Park redid their playground and moved it closer to the road it is overcrowded and the equipment is too close together. There's no way to separate age groups.

Kmart and Winn-Dixie closed because they did not do enough business or they exited the market.
The intersection of Sulphur Springs Road and Hunt's Bridge Road is a safer area than Cedar Lane Road near West Blue Ridge Drive. I am surprised a storage facility was not considered for the former Sky City and Greenville Bowl on Cedar Lane Road.
Another supermarket would be welcomed in Berea proper. If not Publix, a Walmart Neighborhood Market could work.

I agree. People don't understand the area. They see crime on the news in a few sections and paint the whole area with a broad brush. There are plenty of very nice homes and neighborhoods with many more on the way to the North and West of the town area that would frequent new retail in Berea proper rather than going all the way to TR or Cherrydale. They desperately need a pharmacy like Walgreens in that area. That would be nice to see on that corner where the old school sits now.
