With all the new developments in the Five Forks area, will new schools be built. My son goes to Rudolph Gordon and I was told that a new middle school was going to be built on the same property. Does anyone have information about any construction?
Thanks!
According to a Journal Watchdog item in February of 2011, "...the district plans to add 250 seats to Rudolph Gordon Elementary and turn it into a K-8 school. That conversion will ease overcrowding at Rudolph Gordon, Bryson Middle, Hillcrest Middle and Riverside Middle." No mention of building an additional school on the site. (Ref: School growth slows | The Journal Watchdog by Community Journals, a media company based in Greenville, S.C) However, as of today, it is still listed as having only kindergarten through grade 5 classes.
The school district also purchased land in Fountain Inn to build a new school. First it was going to be a high school, which changed to a middle/high school. The proposed school has been placed on hold.
A new high school in southeastern Greenville County is really, really needed. For example, if you live in Five Forks, you should not be busing all the way to Mann or Mauldin.
The School District of Greenville County should overhaul its school assignment system. If you are zoned for a school a block away from you, you should not be assigned to another school ten miles away.
This is such a divisive topic. I was talking to some parents recently and they were saying how they didn't understand why there were so many high schools in Greenville County. They were saying it was harder to compete with some other schools in the state because they are so large. I do think there needs to be a balance for travel time to school, but condensing resources into regional high schools.
As the School District of Greenville County increases its student population, it would not be a bad idea to create regions.
If you lived in Sugar Creek in Greer, you would attend Riverside schools including Buena Vista Elementary, Riverside Middle and Riverside High.
If you live on Edwards Road in Taylors, you would attend Eastside/Wade Hampton Schools.
