We live in the Pelham Road/Highway 14 area. My daughter has her permit and we've been driving around the neighborhood and at the empty strip mall across from Village of Pelham hospital. Any suggestions for some quieter, reasonably straight roads to take her out on to get more comfortable before we graduate to busier roads and highways? She is not really excited about learning to drive, so we are having to ease her into it. I grew up in a rural area and learned to drive on country roads. I don't envy Greenville teens who have to learn with all the traffic. I'm sure it helps them later on in being comfortable with traffic, but it seems to be a challenge for those first starting out.
The north part of highway 25 to highway 11, then south on Tigerville Rd or N highway 101, and back towards 25 on highway 414. It's mostly straight with some slight twists and turns, not as much traffic as closer to Greenville, and the speed limit varies to give her experience. There are also plenty of country roads with little to no traffic for practicing on in the area. Those are the roads I learned to drive on oh so many years ago, and while it's grown a bit, they should still be quiet enough for a learning driver.
Also, in the same area, take 253 towards 290, then back on 290 all the way to 25, or take Mush Creek Rd back to 253. Going that route is also going to be fairly quiet with varying speeds, and it's also a pretty drive.
The roads in ICAR are quiet early on the weekends.
And the practice there with roundabouts is well worth it. Roundabouts are gradually being added to the appropriate intersections in the US as a way to solve traffic issues.

We are involved in this now. After a few years its time to get this kid driving on his own. I figured that was the case, USNRET04 and if you cross Laurens to Fairforest it too should be fairly quiet, I would think. Now I just need to get him out of the house on the weekend!
There is a small network of roads that were intended to become a development of some sort but are since devoid of any regular activity - perfect for practicing. They are behind the Park Sterling Bank across Hwy, 14 from Pelham Medical Center. Should be quite convenient to you, too.
