OMG....Sex

Americans always crack me up. No problem with Saw and other horror movies on TV in the middle of the day but God forbid there is a boob or anything sex related ANYWHERE. Only bad people like and have sex.

What makes me mad is that I can't even watch a football game on a Sunday because of all the violence during commercial breaks. But hey, at least it has nothing to do with sex.

Strange moral standards.

There is nothing strange about protecting children from age specific material. And honestly, even adults should be able to go out into the world without forced exposure to other people's needs to copulate their values.
Anarchy is not a pretty way of life, a little discipline is not extreme.

"Get a room" really means something.

(actually, 'good people have better sex, because they are not focused on performing for an audience'.)

Again, I guess I don't get how there is such an outcry over sex all the time and violence is completely acceptable. Doesn't make sense to me.

Forced exposure? Just turn around and leave the store and don't go back in there.

Children in the mall are the issue and you seem to be unable to understand that there are things in the world that need a degree of control.
This is similar to putting hard liquor in drink machines along with cherry sodas or cola. The Spencer stores definitely dress their fronts in a way that attracts children. (so they need to be responsible retailers and have areas that are not for children to wander)

This is not an 'outcry'. It is just recognizing a potential problem for adult merchandizing in a family oriented environment.(the mall) A little thoughtful control would make everyone secure and happy. (well all but those who want to rip the fabric of society apart) lol

Actually, I have never seen a lot of violence in the stores in that mall. If I did I would let the management know that it is not acceptable to me, with all that implies.

Not sure what is in that store that is so horrific. If the children are too small to see anything sex related, then it's the parent's responsibility not to go there with them. If parents let their kids go by themselves the kids are probably considered old enough and I doubt they will find anything in the store they haven't heard about. It's not like they are selling hard core porn there.

I also never mentioned violence in the stores, did I? I was talking about violence during commercials while watching a football game. Can't really do that with my three year old around. I guess you can start talking to the managements at all regular tv stations then.

Just seems like something for people who have nothing better to do to get worked up about.

Frankly.. Does anyone know if there are actually laws against selling a sex toy to someone under 18? I'd have to believe that there are in this state, but..

I wouldn't overly have a problem if there wasn't. It would certainly be strange to see one being bought by someone under 12.. But.. Frankly.. I'd rather hear of someone using an ildo-de at 13 than dealing with a pregnant 13 year old.

I fall into the "We're waaay too uptight in this country regarding sex" thought process.

There's a topic on here from a few years back I remember reading through where parents were asked.. If their child asked them, would they buy them a *****? Most of the fathers said no, most of the mothers were OK with it.. So long as it was for a daughter. There was massive squeamishness when the thought of someone's son requesting one came up.. Which.. is understandable. I kinda agree with those findings.. If I had a daughter.. I wouldn't have a problem with her having an 'aid' at 13-ish.. I wouldn't particularly want to know about it, though.. Teach that sex is natural, rather than dirty. I think that's the way to go.

People will take different stances on this…as seen in this thread. Some feel it is perfectly acceptable for their 16 year old daughter to peruse sex toys, marijuana leaf necklaces, and F*CK YOU t-shirts. Personally, I don't want my daughter doing that…just because she knows about sex, drugs, and profanity doesn't mean I want a store in the mall to have it on display.

I will say that I have been in that store as a college student….and with my kids to buy them a lava lamp when they were under 10…..and their were not dildos and "real" vibrators on display. It has gone to another level.

I wrote a letter to Simon Group and will be sending a copy to each member of their BOD.

And regarding sex vs violence, not sure why there needs to be a choice.

You made the choice to enter the store. It's not like they were sitting out on public display in the common areas of the mall. You had to enter this shop.

Ok.. So, you didn't know what the store was about and accidentally went in.. Now you know not to do that again. A heads up.. If you take a drink of milk, and it's spoiled.. Don't put it back in the fridge thinking "Hmm, maybe it'll be good tomorrow"

I can tell you this.. The Simon Group and their BOD are going to look at your letter.. And then look at approximately 20 years of Spencer Gifts paying their rent in the mall.. And you'll get a nice form letter thanking you for your time.

Not that you shouldn't write it. I'm all for you standing up for what you believe.. I just feel you're looking at this as seeing something you don't like, so it shouldn't be there. You should be protected from it.. Who cares about other peoples' rights? That's really the part that I disagree with you about. Take the flip side of this.. If someone says they're offended by a nativity scene.. I'd be telling them the same thing as I'm telling you.

To me.. You can't say "Get rid of the ildo-days, but what's wrong with these people protesting my nativity scene? I have a right to have that cross on my front yard!".. that's the catch here. Every time you get rid of something you don't like, you enable people getting rid of something you might like. So, you do have to tolerate (remember that tolerate means put up with, not like) some things you disagree with and other people have to tolerate some things that you want.

Perhaps you would be better served by writing to the corporate offices of Spencer Gifts and asking them, politely, to consider putting adult material in an area of the store not accessible by children. Not that I think you'd get anything more than a form letter from them, either.. But that would seem to be the more logical place to go.

Honestly.. I can't imagine someone going to the mall to buy their sex toys. And.. From some research online.. It seems that what Spencer Gifts sells are considered "Adult Novelty Items", not sex toys.. Which is what allows them to be 'on display'. And, apparently, sellable to minors. Though I can't confirm that is true in SC, specifically.
