Rumor has it that the corporate headquarters for this will be in Greenville: United Community Banks and Greenville-based Palmetto Bancshares announce merger agreement

I assume The Palmetto Bank locations will brand over to United Community Bank.

United Community Banks relocating its corporate headquarters from Blairsville, Georgia to Greenville could relocate and add jobs.

That's the way it looks from the article, but they won't even merge until late this year, so it may be 2016 before that actually happens.

As an account holder, this is kind of a mixed bag IMO.

United is bigger, so it's possible that we'll get useable services that Palmetto doesn't currently offer (for example Palmetto's new mobile deposits feature is useless to us, as it has very low per check / per month limits), and United includes Publix ATMs as network ATMs.

On the down side, it appears that United doesn't waive the monthly account fee based on debit card usage, doesn't offer interest on their lower level accounts, and doesn't have the waiver / refund on out of network ATMs.

Of course these things could change with the merger, so we'll just have to wait to see.
