I currently have family in town from New Orleans and they want some Greenville souvenirs. They don't want the typical cliched, tacky keychain and coffee mug type stuff though. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to go for some non-touristy looking Greenville t-shirts or other gifts?
I was going to suggest Palmetto Moon (Haywood) or Mast General (Downtown) may have some items. It's going to be hard to find a place with large a selection like a touristy city like New Orleans would have.
When I travel, I prefer stuff that is a little more specific. For example, a beer (or glass) from a local brewery. A mug from a local coffee shop. Or art from a local artist. Or the mice on main figurines as suggested above. Things like that are more interesting and specific. They still make me think of the place that I got them, without seeming over touristy or boring or having a bunch of knick knacks that just say random city names.
Thanks everyone. I've never been to Mast because I thought it was the prototypical tourist trap, but it sounds like it may be worth checking out. Also, the shop at City Hal sounds like it may fit the bill. Palmetto Moon was my first though, but when I was there around Christmas, it seemed to be mostly crescent moon and palm tree stuff. Nothing really local to Greenville. Thanks again!
I'm still all for the grits!!!! I have friends coming in from ATL next week and 3 bags of grits from Suber Mill have been requested.
