My insurance company says no under their policy, but I don't know if there are any landlord rules that say I need to provide one.

Is it a multi unit complex, or a single unit? That may make a difference. My parents had a multi unit property and there had to be an extinguisher every so many feet on the outside of the units.

To me, I wouldn't want to be "penny wise and pound foolish" and would, at the very least, give them a can of something like this:

First Alert Tundra Fire Extinguisher Spray-AF400 - The Home Depot

Tundra Fire Extinguisher Spray

At least it's something, and it's not as big or bulky as a regular fire extinguisher.

Many people do not think along these lines to have a fire extinguisher, or ask for one. They figure a fire detector is good enough.

Being it's your property, not theirs, I'd much rather provide something in the case of an emergency where something could be handled quickly and easily rather than let it get out of control and burn your property down, and if any adjoining units, others as well.

Also to think about - where is the closest fire hydrant from the unit. Something I thought about when I bought property.
