I have some newer and some older computers and printers that I am trying to sell. I was wondering if anyone may know of places that would buy these or if any individuals may be interested.

If no one knows of organizations, try Craigslist to find interested individuals - of course that has some degree of hassle.

For the oldest / unsellable items, Goodwill is the easiest way to dispose of them; they take almost any computer items.

I'd add that Staples also accepts old computer equipment for recycling.

I know youd rather sell, but if you have stuff left over I think it is illegal to toss it in a landfill.

The landfills actually have a trailer intended for disposal of old electronics.

Please please please destroy your hard drives. Drill holes in them, shoot them, or whatever. If I find a computer with a supposedly 'empty' HDD I can recover most of the data in hours.

You can also try to sell them on ebay if you think they are worth something. If not, please recycle by taking them to one of the designated electronics collection areas like the one on Anderson Ridge Road.

Computers get out of date real fast and people usually don't want an old or a used one. Its like houses, people want new.

Goodwill recycles most of the electronics it takes in, including computers. They have a significant recovery capability for precious metals.

Excellent advice. I either introduce mine to Mr. Bandsaw or a give them a workout with a 4 pound hammer before disposal. I've done some HDD postmortems myself. As you mentioned...iIt's not terribly difficult.
